Trade & Investment

The UK and China have deepened and strengthened exchanges and cooperation since President Xi Jinping’s State Visit to the UK in 2015. A series of initiatives, such as the UK-China Innovation Cooperation Partnership, UK-China Infrastructure Alliance and Shanghai-London Stock Connect, have further enhanced bilateral trade and investment, and supported mutual economic competitiveness and innovation.

China is the UK’s largest trading partner outside of Europe and North America. Whilst the UK is China’s largest destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Europe. The UK-China trade relationship has gone from strength to strength: UK trade with China (including Hong Kong) reached £104.5 billion in 2019, surpassing £100 billion for the first time.

The UK is one of the world’s largest and most dynamic economies. We are committed to working with partners to build a truly global Britain, and the relationship with China is strong, growing, and delivering benefits for both countries.
